One questions we get asked a lot is: “should I get OneWheel Pint or OneWheel XR?” - and the answer is… depends! Both are epic machines that have slightly different applications and cater for different riding styles and conditions. Here’s our take on the compact vs beast.
The obvious advantage of OneWheel Pint is that it’s easier to live with in a smaller spaces. It’s 2kg lighter, easier to carry around, easier to store and fits better inside your Mini. Having said that, when it comes to storing your OneWheels the OW Deep Shack Rack Stand is our favourite solution - keeping those tyre marks off your walls effectively avoiding getting kicked out of the house. The OneWheel Pint is a town animal - it’s more nimble than the XR, easier to turn, to corner with and leaves less of a footprint when riding around the city. The range of up to 8 miles is perfect for most commuting situations and if you’re stopping at a cafe or you’re in the office you can quickly charge your Pint using the OneWheel Hypercharger. We’ve never found it lacking in terms of neither speed or range when it came to commuting. It’s a great little vehicle to get around the town and beyond. We’ve had it down the local trails and it blazed through most of the stuff with no problems whatsoever. Also, smaller riders will find it more comfortable to manage than its bigger brother.
However, when it comes to trailblazing the OneWheel XR is an absolute beast. It’s more rugged, handles higher speeds better and goes over obstacles with more ease. Not to mention twice the range of the Pint and slightly increased top speed. Having said that, going at 16mph feels fast enough for most of us, the XR takes it up a notch by adding another 3mph. It’s made for longer commutes, for going on the trails and shredding off-road terrain. Also, bigger riders will appreciate more leg room and wider stance. Yeah, it’s heavier and bulkier but you get quite a lot of added benefits that come with the size. If you intend to go on a longer journeys and use your OneWheel off the beaten track, the XR is the one to go for. Just remember to add a fender to the board as the amount of stuff flying up is pretty incredible. Also worth mentioning, the XR is built like a tank. Just without the canons.
When you see both of them side by side the Pint’s an 911 and the XR is more like a Ford F350 pickup truck. Two different boards, both epic - just depends on the settings you’ll be most likely using them in. You can always pop into our OneWheel store in Scotland to have a look and compare them - at the time of writing this blog, we’re under lockdown due to the virus (we shall not mention its name so it might go away faster, that nasty attention seeker!) but we’re hoping to have our retail unit open soon. You can still phone us up or hit us with an email and order your OneWheel’s online!
